"News you can use. At the onset of his career, Dr. Leon Spiers used journalism to tell stories about medical advances and research in terms people could use in their own lives. After transitioning to practicing medicine, Dr. Spiers has spent more than 35 years translating health care into news you can use to improve your health and wellness.
As a family medicine doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Spiers helps patients ages six and older navigate the various issues that pop up at every stage of life. And to provide high-quality care to his patients, Dr. Spiers listens.
“The better part of most diagnoses can be made by listening to the patient,” he says. “It’s about asking the right questions and getting a good history. This takes time,” said Dr. Spiers. “At PartnerMD, patients have time to tell their stories and we have time to work together to address their needs.”
Prior to joining PartnerMD in May 2006, Dr. Spiers was chair of the departments of family practice at both Saint Mary’s Hospital and Henrico Doctors Hospital. For 10 years, he chaired the committee at St. Mary’s Hospital overseeing the quality of care and patient safety. He also was a clinical assistant professor of family medicine and chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee at the Bon Secours Richmond/Blackstone Family Practice Residency Program from 2002-2004.
Dr. Spiers received his bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Virginia in 1982. He completed his residency at the University of South Carolina’s Richland Memorial Hospital."
