Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Gutierrez began her pursuit of medicine at the University of Virginia where she completed her pre-medical training and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry in 1997. After three years of teaching math and science for Teach for America in the Houston Independent School District and KIPP Academy in Houston, Texas, she continued her studies at the University of Texas at Houston where she received her medical degree in 2004. Gutierrez spent the next four years in specialty training and residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she was appointed chief resident and served one year as an instructor to internal medicine trainees."
