Shawn Cole, MD

Dr. Cole is board-certified in internal medicine and has a strong academic primary care and urgent care background. Following completion of his internal medicine-primary care residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital, he enjoyed six years at the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Health System where he assumed an academic primary care role and helped  lead the first nurse-practitioner fellowship in interprofessional primary care which is now serving as a model for Veterans Affairs interprofessional healthcare delivery across the country. Subsequently, he became a Medical Director for Urgent Care and Patient-Centered Medical Home in the Yale-New Haven Health System.  His leadership and passion for innovative healthcare solutions led to Dr. Cole being selected as the physician champion for the health system’s telemedicine initiative which led to a career-defining, instant appreciation for a healthcare delivery modality that offers convenient patient access solutions and boosts physician satisfaction.  He has since become a national leader in telemedicine serving as a telemedicine implementation advisor for health systems, clinical practices, and virtual health start-up companies with whom he collaborates in drafting evidence-based clinical guidelines, strategizing information technology optimizations for telemedicine practice, and in providing the training/education for and clinical quality oversight of physicians and other healthcare professionals.  He is the owner of and president of several national medical groups and works extensively with physicians and other professionals coaching them to help them realize their potential, inside and outside of the clinic setting.

Dr. Cole has won numerous teaching awards because of his enthusiasm for leadership and education. He also holds master’s degrees in health administration and in applied nutrition.  Outside of healthcare, he is an avid ice hockey player and coach, a lifelong martial artist, and a fitness and sports nutrition enthusiast and a guitar player.
