Melissa Toyos, MD

"Dr. Melissa Toyos is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Louisiana State University who is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist.  She joins Toyos Clinic from one of the largest practices in the country, Discover Vision Centers in Kansas City, where she was a partner.  Dr. Toyos specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma, and cosmetic procedures of the face.  She has extensive experience in the use of lasers, fillers, botox, latisse, and lid surgery to achieve facial rejuvenation.  She is the pioneer of the Mixto Laser Lift, a laser procedure that has won the International Non-Surgical Enhancement Award for the last three years.  Many public figures have utilized her skills to look their best. 

Dr. Toyos is a national researcher and lecturer.  She trains other doctors on surgical techniques as well as the use of ocular and cosmetic medications.  Her clinical research has been used by the FDA to approve various medications that are now out in the market today.  She is a two time award winner of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Research Grant.  She won the Lieberman Research Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).  She has published and edited over 100 publications and is a frequent lecturer at the AAO.  She is the Director of Research at Toyos Clinic where she directs several FDA research projects. 

Dr. Toyos devotes time to patient advocacy and community outreach.  She is the former President of the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.  She has held various leadership positions with the AAO including Deputy Section Leader.  She was voted one of Kansas City's Most Influential Women and Women Who Mean Business for her community work.  She has served as a mentor to young female surgeons, helping them understand how to balance a career and motherhood."

"Toyos Clinic was established in 1998 when Dr. Rolando Toyos was called by a recruiter from St. Judes Children's Hospital who was looking for an Ophthalmologist to staff a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Jackson Madison Medical Center in Jackson, Tennessee.  Dr. Toyos was responsible for eye care at the NICU for 10 years and was also the Medical Director of the Jackson Madison Surgery Center.  He opened a clinic in Memphis when the Memphis Grizzlies asked him to be the team's Ophthalmologist.  A position that he held for several years.  Melissa Toyos, MD became a partner in Toyos Clinic in 2014.  She was previously a partner in one of the largest practices in the country Discover Vision in Kansas City.

Toyos Clinic specializes in three areas - Vision, Optical, and Aesthetics.  Vision encompasses medical and surgical eye care which includes cataract surgery, glaucoma, dry eye, lasik, age related macular degeneration, keratoconus, strabismus, diabetic and hypertensive eye exams and more.  Optical includes general eye exams requiring glasses or contacts.
