"Dr. Hopkins joined The Oregon Clinic Portland Dermatology in July 2013 after spending three years as full time Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Associate Residency Program Director at Oregon Health and Sciences University. Sam grew up in Portland, graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, and then matriculated to the University of Virginia for medical school, graduating in 2006 with induction to both Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Medical Honor Societies. He completed his Dermatology residency at OHSU in 2010 where he served as Chief Resident. He is board certified in dermatology and served as president of the Oregon Dermatology Society from 2017-2018. He also continues in his role as Assistant Professor of Dermatology at OHSU as an adjunct faculty member.
Additionally, while at OHSU Dr. Hopkins developed a focused interest in skin problems affecting transplant recipients, and continues to run a specialty clinic at OHSU dedicated to these patients. He finds that balancing private practice and academic dermatology has been professionally enriching because it keeps him fresh and engaged as a physician, and the collective experience he has gained allows him to take better care of his patients."
