Doctor Details:

"I am Dr. Todd Granger, an internal medicine specialist and founder of this new practice. I have been in medical practice for over twenty years in the Chapel Hill / Chatham County area, with a wide range of experience in both outpatient and hospital settings.

At Primus we are dedicated to treating medical disorders and illness compassionately and to optimizing health and vitality through effective wellness care of our patients.  Our philosophy is that the practice of medicine is not only a science, but a humane art that puts patients first.

I am a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and my training and experience have equipped me to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical illnesses, including but not limited to diseases of:

Heart and blood vessels

Brain and nervous system

Lungs

Stomach, intestines, and liver

Kidneys and bladder

Skin

Immune system

Endocrine glands (like the pancreas and the thyroid)

Infectious diseases

I also have wide experience in women’s and men’s health issues, including diagnosis and treatment, prevention and screening, and wellness promotion.

Though I have lived in this area since 1989, I am originally a native of central Louisiana. I took my undergraduate degree at Tulane University in New Orleans in 1985. I earned my medical doctorate at Washington University in St. Louis in 1989 and completed an internal medicine residency and a year-long clinical research fellowship in cardiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1993. In 1993 I joined Chatham Medical Specialists in Siler City, where I remained until 2007.  From then until 2014 I practiced at Chapel Hill Internal Medicine. I was also on the faculty of the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina as a clinical assistant professor of medicine from 1993 to 2007. In 2014, I took a sabbatical in order to begin work on a master’s degree in theological studies at Nashotah House, an historic Anglican/Episcopalian seminary in Wisconsin (theology has been my other great interest since high school). I returned to medical practice in late 2016, and with the assistance of my wife and practice consultants opened Primus Internal Medicine.

Having had experience as a primary care internist in rural, small town, and university town settings as well as in an academic tertiary care center clinic, I greatly enjoy getting to know my patients, not only by diagnosing and treating their medical conditions and advising them in matters of health and wellness, but also getting to know them simply as persons: their families, what interests them, and how and why they’ve ordered their lives as they have. Not only is that personally rewarding to me, but taking the time to get to know patients personally is an integral part of their health and wellness. Over the course of my practice of medicine, I have been humbled by the trust that patients have placed in me as their physician. I take that trust seriously, and I will do all that I am able to ensure that it has been rightly placed."
