"Kate is a family physician originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. She joined Lantern in 2020 after five years of practice in Clyde, NC with Mission Health. After a unique medical school experience in New York City, she trained at MAHEC in Asheville, where she served as chief resident. Alongside Ben during residency, she developed a shared interest in primary care innovation (and direct primary care specifically) in the region and is excited to rekindle this shared passion as part of the Lantern team. While Kate cherished the relationships with her patients in rural Haywood County, the rush and volume expectations of a traditional medical practice meant that she couldn’t spend the time on wellness, prevention, and mental health that she feels are foundational to good health.
Outside of the office, Kate enjoys exploring Western North Carolina with her husband and son. She is keenly interested in WNC’s history and culture, particularly bluegrass music, and is also an avid soccer fan.
Kate’s specific interests include: primary care innovation, public health, rural health, lifestyle medicine, and the impacts of mental health on general wellbeing."
