"Joseph Wilson, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic shoulder surgeon and sports medicine specialist. He provides patient-centered, collaborative care to patients throughout Raleigh, Apex, and Durham, North Carolina, at Shoulder Expert of Raleigh.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Dr. Wilson went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. As a Flight Surgeon in the US Navy and as a key member of an F-18 Fighter Attack Squadron, Dr. Wilson spent time serving aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Constellation.
Upon completion of his orthopedic training at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, Dr. Wilson spent an additional 18 months of subspecialty training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he was also an assistant team physician for DePaul University and its Division I Men’s and Women’s basketball teams. While in Chicago, Dr. Wilson also served as an assistant team physician for both the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls.
In 2009, Dr. Wilson was selected for the Alps Surgery Institute International Shoulder Fellowship in Annecy, France. He is proud to have had the privilege to train alongside the leading shoulder specialists of the world. Among the 44 Fellows in the history of the institute, Dr. Wilson is one of a select few Americans to have been chosen."
