"Dr. James Westbrook was a Navy pilot before he transitioned into medicine. Today, he’s served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and teaches internal medicine topics at the Navy’s aeromedical institute. With his patients, Dr. Jimmy seeks to understand their goals and priorities, then develops personalized strategies to help them be successful.
He uses a relatable approach to help patients understand his medical point of view, believes in positive feedback, and focuses on the patient’s goals while designing treatment plans. He says, “Too often physicians focus on their own metrics at the expense of the patient’s priorities… If we focus on their goals, and they see results with regards to their priorities, motivation builds, and even better results will follow.”
Dr. Jimmy runs his own wellness blog called drjimmy.com, where he aims to spread the message of better living through movement, fasting, sleep, and processed food avoidance. He’s extremely knowledgeable about nutrition and has experience with various diets such as keto, vegetarian, vegan, Whole30, and more.
Personally, Dr. Jimmy has overcome hypertension, skin problems, back pain, and excess body weight. These experiences, he believes, help him to better relate with patients and what they’re going through. In his free time, he enjoys wine, golf, yoga, cooking, movies, travel, and reading with his daughters."
