"Dr. Shelby Thomas graduated from the University of Missouri in 2000 with her BSN and returned to graduate school at MU in 2009. She graduated with her DNP/FNP with minor in nursing education in 2015. Her nursing background consists of Emergency/Trauma medicine, Cardiovascular, Cardiothoracic, Open Heart surgery, and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Dr. Thomas has been a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant since 2005. She enjoys the relationship between medicine and the law. As a FNP, Shelby will be working in the Urgent Care setting. Nursing academia has been a wonderful blessing in her professional career, as well as her personal life. Shelby’s strengths from the Strengths Quest survey include: Responsibility, Learner, Achiever, Belief, and Consistency. She feels these qualities are the foundation of her character and have helped her be successful in her roles as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, student and colleague. She has been married to her husband, David, for more than a decade. They have two daughters and one son: Peityn, Emory and Roen. Dr. Thomas loves to be in her barn and on her farm with their horses. She loves sports, especially college football and women’s fast pitch softball. Her life begins and ends with her family. She is also deeply involved in improving the screening, treatment, and referral of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in the primary care setting."
