"I enjoy caring for a wide variety of patients and specialize in Mohs surgery and hair restoration. These procedures require meticulous attention to detail, something the artist in me appreciates. The reward of having satisfied hair restoration patients who are thrilled with a fuller head of hair and look closer to their actual self-image really motivates me. Mohs patients who are happy to see minimal scarring after a skin cancer excision are another big bright spot in my day.
I am a native of Holland, Michigan but moved at age three to Bay City, then to Peru, Indiana, Council Bluffs, Iowa and finally Rockford, Illinois before returning to Holland. I graduated from Wabash College and attended medical school at the University of Michigan where I joined the Navy. My internship was completed at the Naval Hospital in San Diego and shortly thereafter I married my wife Mary. I was immediately sent overseas to Gaeta, Italy where I served as a general medical officer on board the USS Belknap (CG 26), our Sixth Fleet flagship.
After four years with the Navy I reentered civilian life and began my dermatology training at Wayne State University in Detroit. I completed my Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship in Mohs Surgery and Hair Restoration at The Stough Clinic in Hot Springs, Arkansas."
