"Dr. Afrookteh is a board-certified internist who graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland medical school in 1983, followed by internship, residency and chief residency at the University of Virginia Hospital. Also board certified in sports medicine, Ali has been practicing in Frederick for more than 25 years. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, which represents a recognition by colleagues of excellence in professionalism, integrity and scholarship. He has also served at Frederick Memorial Hospital in numerous capacities, including Chief of Staff.
Dr. Afrookeh has received numerous professional awards, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the Faculty Gold Medal, Leonard Hummel Prize in Internal Medicine, the Jacob Finesinger Award in Psychiatry at the University of Maryland medical school, Frederick Magazines's Frederick's top internist award in 2008 and the Samuel Asper award as Maryland's top internist in 2011."
