Dr. Dennar has a breadth of medical experience that uniquely informs his approach to medicine. His practice of medicine has included functioning as a hospital medicine specialist in both community and academic medical centers, as a primary care physician in both urban and suburban settings, and as an emergency room physician. He is a physician specialist for both adults and children, dual board certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Pediatrics, making him both an Internist and a Pediatrician.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Williams College, Dr. Dennar obtained his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in 2001. He subsequently completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
Before coming to New Orleans, Dr. Dennar was a staff physician at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia and a hospitalist at Abington Memorial Hospital. He also served as part of the Philadelphia's health department team of physicians that provided essential health care services for underserved communities. In 2007, Dr. Dennar was recognized as a Philadelphia Community Physician Service Award Nominee.
In January 2008, Dr. Dennar joined the Tulane Medical Faculty as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics. At Tulane, he was the Medical Director of the Tulane Mobile Medical Unit, developing a primary care model that garnered the prestigious NCQA recognition.
Dr. Dennar also provided tutelage to medical residents at Tulane University Medical School while serving as an academic hospitalist with the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans. In addition, he has provided ambulatory clinical services to Daughters of Charity as part of Tulane University’s partnership and extension in the community.
Currently, Dr. Dennar continues his practice as a hospitalist at suburban and regional medical centers, while building his co-founded medical practice to fulfill a tenet of his commitment to medicine: "improving the quality of health is improving the quality of life."
His clinical interests include the application of epidemiological principles to physician histories and physical examinations, bridging the gap between the potential benefits of medical treatment and the current realities of medical management, and nutrition as it relates to brain health and hormonal aspects of weight management. He esteems both patient education and medical education and remains dedicated to developing relevant progressive methods to make them more efficient, enjoyable, and successful."
