"Dr. Okamoto has been Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1995. Before coming to Hawaii, he worked at Evergreen Medical Group in Redmond, Washington for 14 years, serving as chair of the Family Medicine Department at Evergreen Hospital for 9 of those years.
With a medical practice grounded in personalized care, Dr. Okamoto takes time to connect with patients and to follow families, providing preventive medical services from childhood to senior adults.
Dr. Okamoto’s dedication to health and wellness in the community extends globally to include volunteer work. His passion for medical missions has led him to over 60 medical trips and has taught medical students and doctors in Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Afghanistan. He participated in disaster relief, leading teams in refugee camps in Rwanda and Kosovo, and delivering post-tsunami relief in Sri Lanka and Nepal. Dr. Okamoto served on Mercy Ships, providing life-saving medical attention to people in Guinea, West Africa, and the Dominican Republic. He sits on the Board of Directors for Health Teams International, serving Cameroon, Tibet, and Myanmar, and on the Board of Medical Teams Worldwide, serving Haiti, Nicaragua, Sudan, and Kenya. Dr. Okamoto received commendations for his work including: Special Recognition for Outstanding Commitment to Medical Staff Excellence at Evergreen Healthcare and the United States President’s Volunteer Service Award for volunteer work with Medical Teams International.
In addition to his volunteer work, Dr. Okamoto is a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and recently returned to Hawaii after a year long deployment. Dr. Okamoto also enjoys jiu-jitsu and is involved with mixed martial arts (MMA) as a ringside physician. He is a Certified Ringside Physician through the Association of Ringside Physicians and has worked for the UFC, King of the Cage, One FC, and many local promotions. He welcomes patients seeking MMA physicals any time."
