"Dr. Kappes is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds an active medical license in Georgia, California and Virginia. She was commissioned as an Army Officer prior to medical school and received her medical degree from the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, completing a General Adult Psychiatry Residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where she served as Chief Resident. After completing her training, Dr. Kappes was stationed at Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah, Georgia, where she worked in the hospital clinic, the inpatient psychiatric hospital and multiple embedded behavioral health clinics. She also served as the Third Infantry Division Psychiatrist, during which time she was the behavioral health consultant to the Commanding General and helped shaped policy for the Division. Dr. Kappes believes in treating the whole person and is dedicated to helping patients function more optimally in their lives, including spending adequate time in her appointments with her patients. She utilizes extended sessions, laboratory testing when appropriate, and consultation with patients’ other providers in order to ensure the most thorough treatment and most positive outcome."
