"Originally from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Amy Roth grew up on a family farm and apple orchard where she became a seven-time high school state swimming champion and record holder. Her academic and athletic achievements earned her admission to Princeton University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2001. She also earned all-Ivy honors for her swimming accomplishments. From there, she enjoyed a few short years working professionally in New Jersey.
In 2007, Dr. Roth entered medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Bradenton, Florida, and completed her medical degree in 2011. Initially intent on a career in psychiatry, she began training at the renowned Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut. While an intern, she realized that her true interests and strengths were in internal medicine and switched to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Connecticut. She completed her training in 2015.
After graduation, she and her husband chose Sarasota as their home, to “live where others vacation.”
Dr. Roth worked as a hospitalist since arriving here in 2015, most recently for the First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She sits on the SMH Quality Committee for Medicine and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. Though new to the area, she quickly established herself as a diligent, proactive, and capable physician."
