"Dr. Antonio Fernández was born in Cuba, but he has lived in Miami, Florida for well over 35 years. He graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Electrical Engineering, and in 1987 he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Fernández has been at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, since his graduation where he practices General Internal Medicine.
He began private practice in 1990 when he joined forces with the Medical Education Director at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Over the next decade, Dr. Fernández’s medical practice has grown and this has led to the addition of new associates.
Despite a busy schedule, Dr. Fernández has maintained active in academic medicine. He is presently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami’s School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is also the Coordinator of the third-year clinical clerkships in Internal Medicine for the University of Miami and NOVA-Southeastern Schools of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Previously, he was the Assistant Program Director of the Mount Sinai Internal Medicine Residency Program (1991-98).
Dr. Fernández is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1995. His work has been published; he teaches and lectures in local and international medical conferences.
His name is published in the “Best Doctors in South Florida,” a list created by fellow physicians in the area. He is consistently listed in the Consumer’s Research Council of America’s, “Guide to America’s Top Physicians.” While his specialty is in Internal Medicine, he has special interests in diabetes care and preventive medicine."
