"Dr. Cindy Ung is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases. She was born and raised in Los Angeles. She completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard College, where she graduated cum laude with highest honors in Biochemical Sciences and Economics. She received her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, where she was recognized with the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award. She completed her medical internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA and her ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston, MA, rated one of the top residency programs in the country. Upon graduation, she was a recipient of the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship, awarded nationally to top clinical residents in ophthalmology. Dr. Ung then remained at Harvard Medical School to complete a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship where she served as chief fellow. During fellowship, she was the recipient of the VitreoRetinal Surgery Foundation Research Award and the Gragoudas Prize for her clinical research.Dr. Ung has published numerous original research articles in leading ophthalmology journals including Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Retina and authored several book chapters. She has presented her research at national and international meetings.She is passionate about working closely with patients to restore and preserve vision with individualized treatment plans. Dr. Ung specializes in macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, vitreomacular traction, primary and complex retinal detachments, ocular trauma, secondary intraocular lens placement, amongst other conditions. She is an active member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.Outside of work, Dr. Ung enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with her husband and son."
