Aaron Amacher, MD

"Dr. Aaron G. Amacher III earned his undergraduate degree in Human Biology at Brigham Young University, and while there, served as a missionary for two years in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed his medical doctorate at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. His transitional internship and ophthalmology residency were completed at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, where he also acted as Chief Resident. His honorable service in the U.S. Army provided Dr. Amacher an uncommon wealth of experience. While serving in Iraq he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device for valor in wartime.

Teaching has also been an important aspect of his career. While in Washington, D.C., Dr. Amacher served as part of the Ophthalmology Residency teaching staff of the world-renowned Walter Reed Army Medical Center, instructing future ophthalmologists in surgical and medical eye care. He has also been appointed as an Associate Professor of Surgery at both the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and Touro University. Dr. Amacher continues to “give back” by having participated in Humanitarian efforts in Honduras, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Belize. He has been fortunate to take two of his children with him thus far in order to stress the importance of service."

"Southwestern Eye Center was established in 1982 in Mesa, Arizona, by Dr. Lothaire Bluth. For more than 35 years, the practice has grown and continues to offer world-class technology and down-to-earth values.

Dr. Bluth pioneered the concept of bringing the doctor to the patient and bringing comprehensive eye care to rural and underserved areas throughout Arizona. On a given morning, three to four airplanes take Southwestern Eye Center ophthalmologists and their crews to outlying offices and ambulatory surgery centers where operations for cataracts, retinal disease, glaucoma, and oculoplastics are performed on those who are unable to travel to or afford care in larger metropolitan centers. Offering outpatient surgical procedures locally allows patients to receive superior and more convenient care at a fraction of the cost the same procedures required in a metropolitan or hospital setting.

More recently, Southwestern Eye Center partnered with Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center as a founding practice in the American Vision Partners network.
